Bottoms Up Wine
Happy National Rosé Day (June 9)! We’ve gathered our supplies at Bottoms Up Wine & Spirits, a serious but accessible shop on Franklin Ave specializing in small-batch booze. “We want to service anyone, whether you’re living paycheck to paycheck or whether you want the most expensive bottle in the store for a special occasion," says owner Shaun McGee, a Queens native who opened Bottoms Up three years ago. (He was out when we stopped by, so pictured here is the management team of Elliott Ellison and Ma-Nyahn Kromah. "We cater to all pockets and all palates.”
Organized by price point, the costs for each section ($12, $15, $18 and $20) are labeled on the floor to eliminate confusion, and tags marked with a “W” indicate wines made by women. A backyard herb garden provides garnish for cocktails at weekly tastings, and an entire wall is dedicated to local spirits made in Brooklyn. “One thing I noticed about Brooklyn is there are too many bullet-proof liquor stores and too many commercial products,” said McGee. “But Brookyln has a lot of young entrepreneurs who are creating the new wave and distilling locally. Supporting that is important to me.”

Bottoms Up emphasizes unique craft offerings, but they’re not above a good rosé. In fact, they have a dedicated section for the pink drink (perfect for today's national holiday). We’re big fans of Lekker, an herbaceous South African variety the store carries, with notes of fresh strawberry and rose petals. And if you’re not in the mood to rally and leave your apartment, Bottoms Up is here for it — they deliver. Visit their website, or download their app, for drinks at your door.
