BROOKLYN MUSEUM

In advance of the “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power” exhibit, Black-Owned Brooklyn partnered with the Brooklyn Museum for a five-day takeover of its Instagram Stories. We produced 10 videos spotlighting Black-owned businesses near the museum in Prospect Heights and Crown Heights.

WEEKSVILLE HERITAGE CENTER

As part of “Meals As Collective Memory” — a month of events celebrating Brooklyn’s Black-owned restaurants and diasporic food culture — we partnered with the Weeksville Heritage Center for a community workshop on getting started or expanding in the food business. We moderated a two-hour skill share attended by local food entrepreneurs, drawing out their best tips and resources.

ARTISTS & FLEAS

We curated and designed a Black-Owned Brooklyn pop-up at the Artists & Fleas flagship market in Williamsburg. Over three weekends from a special co-branded showroom, we featured a rotation of six local Black-owned businesses and promoted the festivities live in our Instagram Stories.

BUY FROM A BLACK WOMAN

We collaborated with Buy From a Black Woman for the nonprofit’s Brooklyn “Empowerment Pop-Up,” in which the BFABW network was invited to visit a Black woman-owned business at a specific date and time (as a surprise to the owner). Black-Owned Brooklyn promoted the event to our social media communities, selected the business and photographed the event.

BRIC / FUTURE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

We partnered with The Future Historical Society, a public art project sponsored by BRIC about the history of Fort Greene. For the installation, we created a “Black-Owned Fort Greene” zine spotlighting Black businesses in the neighborhood.
